On September 26, the MySE18.X-20MW offshore wind turbine with the largest single-unit capacity and the largest rotor diameter independently developed by Mingyang Smart Energy was successfully connected to the grid for power generation. The unit was awarded the "2023 Global Best Offshore Unit Gold Award" by Windpower Monthly magazine. After being connected to the grid for power generation, it will effectively promote the realization of offshore wind power grid parity and the "dual carbon" goals.

The MySE18.X-20MW unit has the characteristics of "modularization, lightweight, high efficiency and high reliability". It adopts a flexible power design, with a maximum power of 20 MW, a wind rotor diameter of 260-292 meters, and can adapt to different market areas. The maximum wind sweeping area is 66,966 square meters, equivalent to the size of 9 football fields. Based on the annual average wind speed of 8.5 meters per second, the unit can generate 80 million kWh of electricity throughout the year, which is equivalent to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 66,000 tons, which is approximately equal to the total annual electricity consumption of 96,000 residents.

It is worth mentioning that the unit relies on the operating experience of more than 2,600 typhoon-resistant units of Mingyang Smart Energy and adopts active typhoon-resistant technology, which can withstand a typhoon of level 17. With its excellent typhoon-resistant performance, the MySE18.X-20MW unit "faced" the super typhoon "Makar" head-on and successfully passed the typhoon test.

The strength of the MySE18.X-20MW unit also comes from Mingyang's full-process, multi-level R&D design and test verification system. During the pre-research stage of the MySE18.X-20MW unit, Mingyang Smart conducted in-depth tests on the basic property data of various materials, including new carbon fibers and metal materials. From the conceptual design of the wind turbine to the wind field test, the MySE18.X-20MW unit has undergone more than 2,200 tests, including more than 800 hours of single material fatigue testing, which effectively ensured the reliability of the wind turbine. In addition, after the wind turbine is connected to the grid, more than 150 comprehensive performance tests will be carried out through monitoring by more than 1,000 sensors on the unit.

Mingyang Smart also gave the MySE18.X-20MW unit a "new skill" - equipped with low-frequency grid-connected technology. Based on this technology, the MySE18.X-20MW unit can directly output low-frequency AC power, which can effectively improve the power transmission capacity, the power transmission distance and transmission capacity of the wind farm, thereby effectively solving the problem of high cost and low energy efficiency of large-scale long-distance power transmission. The application of this technology will effectively help Mingyang's large-megawatt offshore units move into the deep sea.
The MySE18.X-20MW unit is not only suitable for domestic medium and high wind speeds and typhoon areas, but also can be used in Europe and other international high wind speed areas. Since its release and development and offline, the unit has been widely recognized on the customer side and has been pre-bid for batch projects. The choice of the MySE18.X-20MW unit by these batch projects marks that China's offshore wind power has officially entered the 20MW era.

From the application of the MySE3.0MW offshore model in Guangdong Province's first offshore wind power project in 2015, to the commissioning of the world's largest typhoon-resistant wind power platform MySE5.5-7.0MW in 2017, to the world's largest single-unit capacity semi-direct-drive typhoon-resistant offshore model MySE8-10MW in 2019, the MySE12MW unit in 2022, and the MySE16MW unit in 2023, to the installation of the MySE18.X-20MW unit, Ming Yang Smart has always been committed to improving the utilization rate of regional wind resources and promoting the parity development of wind power by scaling up offshore units.

Today, Mingyang wind turbines are not only spread across Guangdong, Fujian, Shandong, Guangxi, Jiangsu, Hainan, Hebei, Liaoning and other places, but have also gone abroad - to the waters of Italy, Japan, Vietnam, Norway and other places, continuously contributing green electricity.

For a long time, as an active promoter of innovative research and development and large-scale development of wind turbines, Ming Yang Smart has always been at the forefront of the industry, insisting on using large-scale development to push the wind power industry towards the direction of "high power generation, high reliability, and lower cost per kilowatt-hour", aiming to contribute wisdom and solutions to the development of global green energy.
